Uniting to Support Refugees

Have you been wondering how you can personally step up to help refugees, now that their federal protections and benefits have been slashed?  The plight of these newcomers is grim - on top of Boston’s sky-high rents and rising food costs, funding for agencies to serve their clients has been drastically reduced. Sadly, our long-time partner, Refugee & Immigrant Assistance Center (RIAC), is reeling from the recent cutbacks amidst increased need.

The BETC Refugee Response Team, in collaboration with the First Church of Belmont, Unitarian Universalist, invites members of the greater Belmont community to join together at a critical fundraiser for RIAC on April 27th. All proceeds will help RIAC continue to provide food, rental assistance, and other services to the people arriving at their door. Speakers will update us on the latest news regarding refugee relief and will share volunteer opportunities and other ways people can help. We’ll enjoy delicious ethnic refreshments, hear wonderful music by some of RIAC’s professional musician clients, have the opportunity to bid on some special items in a silent auction, and enjoy an exhibit of the many beautiful Welcome Blankets lovingly knitted and quilted by members of BETC and the Belmont Unitarian Church for newly arriving refugees.

We urge you to show your support and join us on April 27th from 4-6pm in the auditorium at BETC to learn more about how to help those who’ve come to the US in hopes of a better life!
